Our philosophy

Connect those who seek to travel differently through memorable outdoor experiences, explore the beauty of Cambodia, meet and learn from others so we can grow to be our better selves and better global citizens.

Our mission

Our mission is to offer memorable explorations through learning about culture, history and the concept of global citizenship.

Exploring

There are so many enriching cultures and stories we can study, particularly in a country such as Cambodia. Travelling outside of your comfort zone can allow you to explore yourself and the world around you. We’ll share with you some of Cambodia’s culture, history, traditions, daily living and what the country has to offer through unforgettable outdoor experiences.

Connecting

We believe that we’re all connected one way or another, and that we all have dreams to chase, passions and stories to share. By being open to learn about other peoples’ cultures, history, and the world they come from, we enable ourselves the opportunity to reflect, grow and feel part of the interconnected web which we are all linked to.

Global citizenship

As Mahatma Gandhi said “If you want to change the world, start with yourself”. We at Local Trail Adventures believe that all citizens have a role to play in shaping a better world. Not only this, but we have an obligation to take action to help solve the issues impacting our own communities, and those around us. Outdoor experiential travel enables us to grow into our better selves, and hopefully, better Global citizens.

Our Story

My name is Cho and I’m the founder of Local Trail Adventures. I was born and raised in Siem Reap, right after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime.

I grew up close to the Angkor complex. Growing up here, I got to witness lots of changes within both my community, Siem Reap as a whole, and the tourism industry. I’ve seen first hand the time when Cambodia had just a few thousand tourists per year, to today’s numbers, which are closer to 4 million.

Every year, since The Kingdom re-opened its gates to the world again, more and more tourists have visited this country, with most visiting Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat. Ever since I remember, I was always fascinated about what it would be like to be a tourist myself, and always had the dream of becoming a traveller one day. Fortunately, I found my dream job of being a Trip Leader, leading educational tours taking student groups around Cambodia to study about my country, people and our history and culture. These trips involved the facilitation of group discussions, mentorship, and the concept of Global citizenship. I got to explore different parts of the country, meet inspiring people and work with amazing colleagues.

I lead tours for almost a decade. Through this role, I had the opportunity to attend workshops and capacity building training in Cambodia and abroad, including America, Singapore and Thailand. I’m very passionate about outdoor travel experiences, as I personally have learnt alot about myself, through the people I connected with and the places I explored. I believe that if you travel responsibly and are open to learning new things, then travel can provide a memorable life-changing experience; transforming the way you do things and perceive the world.
